Incident during Pilotage Operations in St. John’s, NL

September 27, 2022 – St. John’s NL – Canship Ugland confirmed an incident early this morning involving one crew member who went into the water from a pilot boat during routine operations shortly after midnight. The pilot boat had completed its duty of transferring a Pilot to a vessel outside the harbour. The crew member was recovered from the water and is deceased.

The Atlantic Pilotage Authority (APA) is deeply saddened by this tragic marine incident and of the passing of our Canship colleague. The APA is respecting Canship’s focus on the family of the crew member and ensuring they have the support they need at this difficult time. The APA will lend their full support to the ongoing investigation in cooperation with the authorities and other transportation partners.
