The Atlantic Pilotage Authority hosted its third annual public meeting on May 19th in the Compass Room at the Casino Nova Scotia on May 19th, 2011. Approximately 54 people were in attendance.

An operational and financial overview of the Authority was presented by the Chief Executive Officer, Captain Anthony McGuinness, and the Chief Financial Officer, Peter MacArthur. This was followed with a presentation of awards from Chair, Tom Calkin, to 11 shipping companies who have been regular callers to the Port of Halifax for 20 years and longer.

The recipients were:

1. Atlantic Container Line – 43 years of service
Award presented to Linda Hall, Documentation Manager

2. Hapag-Lloyd – 43 years of service
Award presented to Peter Selig, General Manager Halifax

3. Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. – 39 years of service
Award presented to Carl Bannerman, General Manager Maritimes

4. Canada Steamship Lines – 29 years of service
Award presented to Bruce Partridge, Director Marketing & Customer Service

5. CMA CGM – 28 years of service
Award presented to Paul Lambert, Office Manager Halifax, of Norton Lilly, representing CMA CGM

6. Wallenius Wilhelmsen – 28 years of service
Award presented to Dean Hansen, Operations/Agent

7. “K” Line – 25 years of service
Award presented to Paul Lambert, Office Manager Halifax, of Norton Lilly, representing “K” Line

8. OOCL – 25 years of service
Award presented in absentia to Bob Sharp, Manager, of Inchcape Shipping Services, representing OOCL

9. Maersk – 23 years of service
Award presented in absentia to Gordon Smith, President & CEO of F.K. Warren, representing Maersk

10. Oceanex – 21 years of service
Award presented in absentia to Greg Merchant, Terminal Manager Halifax

11. NYK Line – 20 years of service
Award presented to Allison Watson, District Manager

Pilotage & Other Charges

The Pilotage Act requires that pilotage tariffs be fixed at a level that permits the Authority to operate on a self-sustaining financial basis, and that the tariffs set be fair and reasonable. The goal is to have each area become financially self-sufficient to eliminate cross-subsidization among ports.
