The Atlantic Pilotage Authority recovers its costs through pilotage service charges invoiced to shippers who use the services of a pilot. The Atlantic Pilotage Authority Customer Guide to Charges provides information on the calculation of service charges applicable to various categories of traffic, the location of the movements, and explains the administrative procedures relating to the charges.

Pilotage & Other Charges

The Pilotage Act requires that pilotage tariffs be fixed at a level that permits the Authority to operate on a self-sustaining financial basis, and that the tariffs set be fair and reasonable. The goal is to have each area become financially self-sufficient to eliminate cross-subsidization among ports.
